Dr. Sharon Vanderlip is a veterinarian and author who has loved Collies ever since she was a child. Like so many Collie lovers, she dreamed of the day she could have her own Collies. The dream became a reality in 1977 when she established Rainshade Collies. Dr. Vanderlip remains dedicated to promoting and improving the Collie breed though her Collie breeding program and by educating others.

Since 1979, Dr. Vanderlip has provided veterinary care to domestic and exotic mammalian species. She served as Clinical Veterinarian for the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine, worked on collaborative projects with the San Diego Zoo, was the Chief of Veterinary Services for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), served as Chief of Surgery for a large government research institution focusing on comparative reproductive medicine, and has owned and directed her own private veterinary practices. Dr. Vanderlip’s practice and research focus on veterinary reproductive medicine and surgery. She provides a wide variety of specialized veterinary reproductive services, including fertility case workups, reproductive surgical procedures, endocrine testing, endoscopic transcervical insemination, embryo transfer, and semen freezing.

Dr. Vanderlip has written more than 20 books, including her highly acclaimed book, The Collie–A Veterinary Reference for the Professional Breeder (1984) . She plans to release her long waited updated Collie book in 2020. Dr. Vanderlip has also written several scientific articles and numerous animal care articles for the general public.

Dr. Vanderlip is a frequent quest on radio and television and is the recipient of various awards and recognition for her writing and veterinary care.

When Dr. Vanderlip is not playing with her Collies, tending to her clients and patients, visiting with her family, or working on a writing project, you can find her out riding her mule or playing her bagpipes at a performance with her bagpipe band!
