Teddy the Guardian

Teddy was one of our most lovable puppies. No one could resist his charm and good looks. He was a wonderful friend, an excellent guardian, and a hard worker. He only got better with age!

Exhibited as a puppy, Teddy and his sister Gracie (Rainshade Kingsmark High Society) always won first in their fun matches. At six months of age Teddy and Gracie traveled to Switzerland, where Teddy won 3rd place and Gracie won 2nd place in large puppy classes at the World Collie Congress in Zofingen, under U.K. judge, Audrey Chatfield. This was a remarkable accomplishment for 100 percent American-bred Collies competing on foreign soil. This was even more remarkable because both dogs had just arrived in Switzerland the day before the show and were still on California time, eating and playing in the middle of the night!

Teddy and Gracie returned to the U.S. and Teddy's promising show career was launched in Arizona where he immediately won four first places and three Reserve Winners Dogs awards, among tough competition. Sadly, Teddy also contracted a severe respiratory infection at the shows. We cancelled additional shows and Teddy came home immediately. With tender loving care Teddy safely recovered, but we decided he was much too precious to take any more chances. We kept him at home, safe and sound, from then on......no more shows!

Teddy figures prominently in today's Rainshade Collies' pedigrees, primarily through his daughter, Rainshade Renaissance. His outstanding qualities and influence are reflected in his descendents.

Teddy is certified normal-eyed by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation certificate #CO505/8-17

Teddy is certified free of hip dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals certificate #CO779G26M-T.

Teddy was test-bred clear proven non-carrier, genetically free and clear of both progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA).
